OIT Deep Geothermal Well and Power Plant

RMT'S ROLE:

RMT prepared an EA for a proposed 1.2-MW geothermal power plant, a 3,000- to 6,000-foot deep geothermal well, and a pipeline connecting the new well and power plant located on the Oregon Institue of Technology's campus in Klamath Falls, Oregon. The project would augment the existing direct uses and could meet all of the electrical needs of the campus. RMT prepared the EA in coordination with the Department of Energy, who funded the project.

SIGNIFICANT ISSUES:

RMT addressed microseismicity issues from injection since the project is located on a populated campus. Noise effects from drilling and operation of the power plant were also addressed. Most impacts were minimal and all effects could be mitigated. The NEPA process was successfully completed in five months.
